The ice maker that’s designed for your life

With a broad range of features, it's not hard to see why FirstBuild made this product easy to use and convenient to enjoy. Opal is smart enough to know when to start and stop making ice. It’s equipped with a sensor that will identify the fill level of the bucket to turn the ice maker on and off. Just like in any cooler, ice will slowly melt within the air-insulated bucket. Opal will automatically turn on to make sure that the bucket is refilling with ice.

  • How does Opal make nugget ice?

Traditional ice makers freezes water into a hard ice cube. Opal nugget ice is made by scraping the ice flakes off the inside of a chilled stainless steel cylinder. The flakes are extruded through a round hole, compacting them into chewable nuggets similar to a snowball.

  • How big is Opal?

Opal's exterior dimensions are 10.5" wide x 15.5" deep x 17.25" tall. Opal was designed to be stored under standard height kitchen cabinets. If you are planning to install Opal on your kitchen countertop, we suggest that you measure the distance from your countertops to the bottom of your cabinets to determine fit.

  • Can I install Opal in a cabinet?

Opal can be installed in a cabinet as long as adequate clearance is allowed for airflow around the sides and back of the unit. We suggest clearances of 3" around the sides and back of Opal. Note that if Opal is installed in an enclosed cabinet, the rate of icemaking will be reduced due to higher temperatures within the cabinet.

  • When I start Opal, it makes slush first.

As Opal starts making ice, the first nuggets will be slushy. After about 30 minutes, Opal will be making good solid nuggets.

  • Opal leaks out the front

We can send you risers to prop up your Opal around a quarter inch. Please contact us at support@firstbuild.com to request these.

  • How do I clean the ice chute?

  • Opal is making a squeaky noise

We sometimes see this when Opals are ran for a long time. Try turning your Opal off for around an hour or two. Once you turn Opal back on, run it through a couple cleaning cycles with water.

Please contact us at support@firstbuild.com if this does not work.
