Paragon Smart Cooking System

The Paragon Smart Cooking System brings precision to any induction cookware, using temperature control instead of traditional power control. Through Bluetooth connectivity with the Paragon’s cooktop, mat and probe, you can sear, poach, simmer, sous vide, sauté, and stir-fry to perfection. This product was launched on Indiegogo, delivered to backers, and then retired in favor of adapting the technology for select GE Appliances products instead of in a stand-alone cooktop.

What is the Paragon Smart Cooking System?

The Paragon Smart Cooking System includes a probe that measures temperature and adjusts the plate accordingly. By connecting easily to iOS and Android devices, the Paragon enables easy monitoring of the cooktop.

Crowdfunding:

The Paragon system was crowdfunded on Indiegogo, where it raised over $180,000. This successful crowdfund campaign met its goal in just a few hours!

Tasty One-Top

In a partnership with BuzzFeed Tasty, FirstBuild created a variation of Paragon called the Tasty One-Top. This product helps to cook recipes such as those found on the BuzzFeed Tasty platform, while using the technology innovated here at FirstBuild.

About Paragon

The Paragon System uses an induction heating method to heat cookware. For this reason, only cookware approved to work with induction systems will work on the Paragon System. Cookware with heavier bottoms (like induction-capable aluminum or copper clad cookware) will result in better heat distribution and even cooking.

The Paragon System in a countertop induction cooktop that gives you flexibility to precisely control pan temperature with the mat, or liquid temperature with the probe. The Paragon System uses induction heating to make sure that a perfect amount of heat is delivered to your cookware to ensure even and repeatable cooking.

Getting Started

You can access all of the temperature controls directly from the cooktop for Sous Vide and Pan Frying temperature control. However, to get tested recipe recommendations, additional timing features (like knowing when to flip), and cooking ideas, try out the FirstBuild app.

The Paragon System has two Sensor modes for precision cooking. That means that they require either the Paragon Mat or the Temperature Probe to be connected to the cooktop before these modes can be used. Rapid Precise mode ensures that your pan or liquid gets to temperature quickly and accurately. The Gentle Precise mode will also ensure that your pan or liquid gets to temperature, but will vary the power to make sure that delicate foods like sauces and clam chowder don’t overshoot the desired max temperature while the cooktop is ramping up.

Yes, you can! The direct mode on the cooktop will allow you to select a heat level from 1 to 10 and will work much like a conventional cooktop system. However, we recommend using the Paragon Mat or Temperature Probe to really bring your meals to the next level.

Hold the power button on the side of the sensor for 3 seconds. The Bluetooth symbol should light up and blink quickly, then slow to a steady blink. Your sensor is ready to be used.

Do not use a dishwasher to clean the Temperature Probe. Before cleaning the Temperature Probe, make sure that the Bluetooth sensor is removed. The Temperature Probe can then be cleaned by hand routinely with warm, soapy water and dried before placing to storage or using again.

Do not use a dishwasher to clean the Paragon Mat. Before cleaning the Paragon Mat, make sure that the Bluetooth sensor is removed. The mat can then be cleaned by hand routinely with warm, soapy water and dried before placing to storage or using again.

Cooktop

The Paragon System is designed to accommodate a variety of pan and pot sizes to fit the needs of the household cook. However, the pan shape, design, and material will all impact how heat distributes along the bottom of the pan. To get the best experience, we recommend using high-quality induction-capable aluminum or copper clad cookware.

Make sure the cooktop is completely cool and use a damp towel to wipe away spills or grease. For spills that don’t clean up with a damp towel, use CERAMA BRYTE Ceramic Cooktop Cleaner and CERAMA BRYTE Cleaning Pad to clean the cooktop.

Maintenance

Before cleaning the Mat, make sure that the Bluetooth sensor is removed. The Mat can then be cleaned by hand routinely with warm, soapy water and dried completely before placing to storage, connecting the module, or using again. The Mat is not dishwasher safe.

Before cleaning the Temperature Probe, make sure that the Bluetooth sensor is removed. The Temperature Probe can then be cleaned by hand routinely with warm, soapy water and dried completely before placing to storage, connecting the module, or using again. The Temperature Probe is not dishwasher safe.

Troubleshooting

This error code means there is either no pot or pan on the cooktop, or the cookware is not induction-capable. To get the best experience, we recommend using high-quality induction-capable aluminum or copper clad cookware.

This error code means the unit experienced a dry pan condition. As a safety feature, the Paragon System will shut-off in a dry-pan condition to avoid getting hotter than normal should all the liquid evaporate quickly. If problems still persist, please contact support@firstbuild.com so that we can get you some personalized help

This usually means that the sensor is disconnected from the cooktop. Try removing and fully reconnecting the sensor to the Probe or Mat and unplug and replug your cooktop. This should clear the error for most users. If problems still persist, please contact support@firstbuild.com so that we can get you some personalized help

This is because a Sensor has not been paired to the cooktop yet. Make sure your Sensor is on (hold the power button for 3 seconds until the Bluetooth light flashes slowly) and that it has been synced to the cooktop. See pairing instructions under the “What do I need to do to start using my Paragon System?” question for more details. If problems still persist, please contact support@firstbuild.com for some personalized help.

The Sensor needs to be powered down after each use. Simply hold the power button down for 3 few seconds to turn it off. You should see the Bluetooth symbol stop blinking. This will help conserve battery life for future uses.

Chances are the battery in the Sensor died. Simply let it charge by plugging the Sensor into a computer or USB  wall charger with the provided micro USB cable. Once charged, the battery symbol should turn off and the Sensor will become ready for use. Always make sure to turn the Sensor off after each use to help conserve battery life.
