redesign the top of the egg holder compartment with a dozen holes or recessed impressions to store additional eggs. There is still clearance above the egg holder to store eggs and if the hole or impression is deep enough, eggs will not fall out when the door is opened and shut.

How

creates extra space when having just a few eggs left and a new carton has been purchased. A lot of times you know you are running low on eggs so you buy another carton when you are shopping. You can't store the new eggs in the compartment until the old ones are used up so you end up taking up regular space. With this design you can either store the entire dozen or a portion of a the carton above the regular egg bin.
