small full color 3D printer
Print full-color action figures, book nook walls, flowers, anything you want that fits in a small area. No supports needed, works like a regular printer (without the expensive propriety inks), hackable, inks used should be open source for variety/improvements/market expansion.
Who
Helps everyone who wants to print full color objects for games, design, projects, cosplay, etc.
What
Utilizing basic ink jet printing mechanics the machine prints out very thin layers of RGB photopolymers along with a non-reactive supporting goo that hardens when cooled, thus precludes the need for supports. After each layer is made a strong UV light is used to solidify the colored resin. When finished the object can be placed in an oven, a hotbox, or even a plastic box with a heating pad wrapped around it, anything that will get the temperature up to the desired goo melting stage but not so hot it deforms the printed object. A FirstBuild hotbox could be sold as an add-on.
How
Printing 3D objects in full color rather than having to paint. With ink jet printing technology you can get amazing detail that isn't possible otherwise. Due to the layers being very thin the UV treatment will be fast and all resin will be cured, thus removing the awkward handling, cleaning and curing requirements of traditional resin printing.
Competitors
There is none. I'm surprised nobody has thought of this before.
