This past weekend, a few FirstBuilders took the time to help paint what will become the new makerspace at The Academy @ Shawnee. FirstBuild has partnered with the school as a part of the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) and project-based learning initiative. The initiative which involves the development of their makerspace also involves helping the students build their skills by using various tools and enabling a student enterprise in which they can learn other skills, like starting a business.

While additional building modifications are being done, the makerspace plans to begin adding equipment like hand tools, woodworking equipment, 3D printers, soldering stations, plotters, and more.

The freshly-painted white walls provide the art students with a blank canvas to give their makerspace some character, while teachers from Shawnee are actually working a FirstBuild to build a cool, custom clock that can be hung on the wall as well.
